CCTV Systems

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) is the use of video cameras to transmit a signal to a specific place, on a limited set of monitors. The term is most often applied to those used for surveillance in areas that may need monitoring such as condos, co-ops, banks, convenience stores, casinos, airports, government or military installations.

Digital Video Recorders (DVRs): can provide recording for extended time periods (limited by storage capacity on the device), can have extra features such as motion-detection and email alerts.

There are 3 types of DVRs:

  • DVRi -analog, using coax cameras/cabling
  • DVR hybrid - gives you a blend of coax and ip, helpful when you are converting your system over to newer ip based technology
  • computer based DVR (IP) - newer technology, used ip cameras connected via cat5 or cat6.
